Angsana or sonokembang (pterocarpus indicus) is a kind of high-quality timber-producing trees of the tribe of Fabaceae (=Leguminosae, legumes). The wood is hard, reddish, and quite heavy, which in the trade are classified as Narra or rosewood.
In various regions, angsana known by similar names: Asante(Aceh); sena, sona, hasona (Batak), asana, there, langsano,lansano (Min.); angsana, babaksana (Btw.); there flowers (Jw.,Md..). But also, nara (Bima, Ceram), nar, na, na ai (Tim.), nala(Ceram, Haruku), lana (Buru), lala, lalan (Amb.), ligua (Ternate,Tidore, Halm.) , linggua (Maluku) and others.
The name in other countries, among them: apalit (Philippines),pradu (Thailand), chan deng (Laos), padauk, sena, ansanah(Burma), Malay padauk, red sandalwood, amboyna (English),and the Santal rouge, amboine (French)
Description:
Tree, height 10-40 m. End of the branch-haired.
Leaveslanceolate forms the fulcrum, the length of 1-2 cm.
Leavesalternate. Leaflets 5-13, oval elongated, tapered, blunt, shinyonce, 4-10 times from 2.5 to 5 cm; child stalk lk 0.5 to 1.5 cm.
Bunches of flowers at the tip and sit in the armpits, little or notbranched, brown-haired, blooming lot, 7-11 cm long; childrenstems from 0.5 to 1.5 cm; flowers are very fragrant. Calyx bell-shaped to form a tube, 5-toothed, lk 7 mm high. Orange-yellowcrown.
Hoofed petals; field flag Iingkaran or ovoid shape upside down, pleated strong, curved back, diameter approximately 1 cm;keel shorter than wings, pale. Will bushy-haired fruit, short-stemmed, 2-6 ovule.
